My older son is now 5 years old, a real “kid”! Over the past year, he has gained so much confidence in himself, his friends and his community, which has been a wonderful to see and feels like a big milestone.
I wanted to ask him about some of his likes and dislikes so I presented him with the exact same questions as last year. I was curious to see which answers would be the same, which ones had changed. His growing confidence came through in his answers this time. He was really thoughtful when he answered and, just like last year, he loved being interviewed. He added a bonus question and answer this time, because he didn’t want the interview to be over.
So, here we are, straight from the mouth and mind of my 5-year-old boy:
- favorite color: orange
- favorite toy: LEGOS and the helicopter thing
- favorite thing about his brother: that he plays with me and builds LEGOS with me
- favorite tv show or movie: Turbo [a movie he’s only seen once and not even the whole movie…]
- favorite food: pizza + hot dogs
- favorite outfit: all the superhero shirts
- favorite sport: skiing
- place he wants to visit for vacation: grammy + poppy
- favorite animal: alligator
- favorite song: old macdonald had a farm
- favorite book: cat in the hat with the horses

- something he’s really good at: riding his scooter
- favorite ice cream flavor: vanilla

Happy 5th birthday to my sweet and wild child. I love him more than words can say and love watching him becoming a little kid even though it is bittersweet for me as his mother.
And this photo below is a good sampling of life with our 5-year-old right now – life is good and silly.
