Not sure where to eat while visiting Washington, D.C.? Check out some of the best restaurants in D.C. for foodies and families.
The cherry blossoms are a huge tourist draw year after year, but D.C. has a lot of visitors no matter the time of year. The Penn Quarter neighborhood seems to be popular among visitors with its large number of hotels and restaurants, metro stops, tour offices and proximity to many of the main tourist attractions. I have a lot of favorite places in this area, some of which are great for families, some better for date nights.
Best Restaurants in Washington, D.C.
Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken, 1308 G St NW
If you love donuts and/or fried chicken sandwiches, don’t miss this place. We love trying the monthly flavors (cherry blossom during cherry blossom time), but our go-tos are creme brulee, PB&J and maple bacon. The donuts are far from cheap, but they’re delicious. For sandwiches, the doughnut bun is our favorite.
China Chilcano, 418 7th St NW
This place is a very fun and lively dinner spot. If your kids are adventurous eaters, you could bring them for lunch. During cherry blossom time, they offer a special menu, including featured cocktails.
Daikaya, 705 6th St NW
This noodle shop accepts only walk-ins, but the wait is worth it for the ramen soup. The vegetable ramen is our favorite.
Oyamel Cocina Mexicana, 401 7th St NW
We love coming here for dinner with friends. It’s fun and lively with a delicious and interesting menu. During cherry blossom time, Oyamel also has a special menu.
Rasika, 633 D St NW
Rasika is upscale, modern Indian. It’s fabulous for a night out. Our absolute favorite dish is Palak Chaat. The restaurant only allows children ages 8 and up. They offer takeout/delivery, which is what we’ve done with our kids.
Tatte Bakery & Cafe, 1090 I Street NW
This is in City Center but not far from Penn Quarter or some of the sights. The menu includes pastries, sandwiches and salads with enough variety that you’ll find something for everyone in your group.
Zaytinya, 701 9th St NW
I love Mediterranean food and have been to Zaytinya numerous times. It’s a beautiful space and perfect for a night out or for lunch/brunch, with or without the kids if they like Mediterranean food. It’s also another restaurant with a cherry blossom menu.
